Q: What are the requirements to maintain the Certified in Cybersecurity certification after passing the exam?
A: Certified in Cybersecurity credential holders will need to earn 45 CPE credits during their three-year certification cycle to maintain the certification. We recommend earning 15 credits per year. You will also need to pay an Annual Maintenance Fee to maintain your certification.
For a quick guide to CPE credits, download the CPE infographic (.pdf): English | Chinese | Japanese | Korean | German
View our YouTube playlist of ISC2 CPE Tutorial videos for more guidance on how to navigate the CPE portal, submit CPE credits and more.
Q: What is the fee and when do I need to start paying for it?
A: You’ll need to pay your first Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF) of U.S. $50 for the Certified in Cybersecurity certification after passing your exam and completing your certification application. Afterwards, the AMF is due annually on your certification anniversary.
Q: As an employer, what does it mean if a job candidate has this certification?
A: Holding the CC certification indicates that the candidate has successfully demonstrated their knowledge in the fundamentals of cybersecurity principles. It showcases their proficiency in understanding policies and procedures, as well as their commitment to ongoing cybersecurity education and development.
Q: Is there an age restriction to take an ISC2 examination?
A: You must be 16 years old to sit for an ISC2 examination.
Q: Why is ISC2 offering an entry-level certification?
A: Research from ISC2 and others continues to conclude that there is a global shortage of qualified cybersecurity professionals. While there are many contributing factors, we believe one solution is to create a certification that enables candidates – including students, young professionals and career-changers – to demonstrate to employers their familiarity with foundational cybersecurity concepts as determined by cybersecurity professionals and practitioners already in the field.

Q: Are ISC2 exams available online?
A: Not at this time. Following multiple Online Proctor Pilot Tests, ISC2 has concluded that they do not meet exam security standards.
Q: How can I find testing center locations and times?
A: Find the nearest Pearson VUE testing center online at https://wsr.pearsonvue.com/testtaker/registration/SelectTestCenterProximity/ISC2. When you are ready to select a date and time, use this step-by-step guide to book your exam.
Q: What should I do if I cannot find a nearby test center?
A: You can contact Pearson VUE Customer Service for assistance scheduling your examination.
Q: What is Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) and what exams use that test format?
A: ISC2 uses the CAT format for the CISSP exam in all available languages: English, Chinese, German, Japanese and Spanish. CAT allows for shorter exams at three hours instead of six, and as few as 100 items instead of 250. CAT exams are a more precise evaluation of a candidate’s proficiency in a given domain. For more information, visit https://www.isc2.org/certifications/cissp/cissp-cat
Q: How can I request a special examination accommodation?
A: ISC2 provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations for its exams, such as extra time, breaks and reading equipment for those who have demonstrated a need for test accommodations. Q: What can I bring inside the test center?
A: Personal items and/or notes, books etc. are not permitted inside the test center. You will be instructed by the test administrator to empty your pockets and place all items in a locker.
Q: During the exam, can I skip a question and then go back to answer it?
A: No. ISC2 offers two types of computer-based exams – linear and adaptive – however, neither exam type allows candidates to skip a question and return to it later.
Q: How can I reschedule or cancel my ISC2 exam?
A: With advance notice (more than two days or 48 hours) before your scheduled exam, you can reschedule or cancel your exam online. If you are between one day (24 hours) and 48 hours before your exam, you can reschedule by calling Pearson VUE. For ISC2 certification exams, Pearson VUE charges a U.S. $50 fee to reschedule. However, those participating in ISC2’s One Million Pledge sitting for the Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) exam for the first time do not pay fees for rescheduling.
Q: What is the examination retake policy?
A: You can find the ISC2 examination retake policy by visiting ‘Retake Policy’.
Q: Will I receive an exam score?
A: No, scores are not provided. For those who fail an examination, a list of proficiency levels for each domain will be provided at the testing center.
Q: When will I get my exam result?
A: In most cases, you will receive your provisional examination results before you leave the test center. You will also receive your exam results via email, as well as directions for your next step in either completing the certification process (if you pass) or rescheduling your exam (if you fail).
Q: If I need to retake the exam, do I have to pay the exam fee again?
A: Yes, you will need to pay the full examination fee for each examination attempt, unless you have purchased your exam voucher with Peace of Mind Protection.
Q: What do I do if I have passed the exam, but have not received any notice or email from ISC2 after a few days?
A: Result delivery from Pearson VUE can take up to 72 business hours to arrive. Once your examination results are received, you will receive an email confirmation from ISC2. Issues can occur for those with multiple accounts that do not have access to the email address associated with your examination. In these cases, please contact Exam Administration at examadministration@isc2.org for your accounts to be merged and for your examination confirmation to be resent.
Q: My name on my legal documentations differs from the exam confirmation, sequence or otherwise, what should I do?
A: You can review and update your name up to two days (48 hours) prior to your exam appointment by logging into your account. If you are closer than 48 hours before your exam and have not been able to resolve your naming differences, we recommend rescheduling. Name changes cannot be made on your test day, including at the test center.
